A California man is facing charges after he was caught on video yelling racial slurs at a Black woman before attacking her car with a power saw, per KTLA.
The incident unfolded on May 13 when the victim, who declined to be identified due to safety concerns, was trying to find a parking spot in Hollywood. The victim encountered a truck that was blocking the road and asked the owner if he could move his vehicle, which sparked a confrontation between her and two men.
The men reportedly began yelling racial slurs at the woman and reached inside her car through an open window.
“He stuck his hand inside [my car] and reached at me, reached at my phone, and that’s when I took out my pepper spray and deployed it,” the victim recalled. “I maced him and then he backed away.”
One of the men came back from a nearby home that was under construction with a power saw, which he used to attack the woman's car.
“I was honestly just too stunned to move or even speak at that point,” the woman said. “But I still managed to record [the incident] on my phone, to hear what was going on.”
“He comes up to my passenger window and strikes the window and backside passenger door multiple times,” she continued. “Just hacks at it, which you can hear in the video. At that point, that’s when I decided to call 911.”
Before police arrived, the power saw-wielding man fled the scene. The suspect is facing battery charges and remains at large.
“I was terrified,” the victim said. “I was like, stuck in fear, but I just knew from the moment he made the first initial racial comment that I had to record.”
The suspect has been described as a bald, Caucasian man in his 50s or older. He is roughly 5 feet 5 inches tall and has green eyes, a mustache, and a scar on his left middle finger.
